History
The Gore District Mutual Fire Insurance Company was formed on June 18, 1839. Three years prior in 1936 a law was passed authorizing the establishment of insurance companies. At the time the economy was growing and entrepreneurs expressed a need to insure their businesses. The Gore District Mutual Fire Insurance Company was started at the Brantford School House and for almost two centuries they have been providing outstanding service in the insurance industry. If it was not for Gore Mutual Insurance many business owners may have determined it was not worth the risk to invest money or have received the proper advice. The Waterloo region may not have been the entrepreneurship center it is today.
There were plenty of challenges at the time of inception for Gore Mutual. At the time the insurance market was a relatively new market. As an insurance company products can easily be copied and the company would face their share of competition. The company would need to develop a competitive advantage in this emerging market. As a short term strategy “being first” was a big advantage to Gore Mutual Insurance as they could capture a big share of the market. Also by being one of the first insurance companies they would also brand their name into their customer’s minds. This would only work for so long though and a long-term competitive advantage was needed. Providing the excellent customer service they stood out from the competition and proved to be a winning strategy.

Gore Mutual was named the #1 insurance company in British Columbia and Ontario by both the IBABC and IBAO.
Gore Mutual was named the #1 insurance company in Ontario by the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario in 2006.

Gore Mutual supports the Canadian Community through the Gore Mutual Foundation which was incorporated in 1998.
